Thesis Writing Training for the Faculty of Engineering, University of PGRI Palembang for the 2022-2023 Academic Year

Every student who will complete his studies is required to compile a scientific work called a thesis, after he meets the academic and administrative requirements. By compiling a thesis, students are expected to be able to summarize and apply all their educational experience to solve problems in a particular field of study in a systematic, logical and scientific manner, based on accurate data or information and supported by appropriate analysis, and put it in the form of a scientific research report.

In an effort to improve the quality of student thesis writing that is good and correct, the Faculty of Engineering, University of PGRI Palembang organizes Thesis Writing Training for students. On this occasion the Faculty of Engineering presented four competent speakers namely Amiwarti, S.T., M.T., Emidiana, S.T., M.T., Herri Purwanto, S.T., M.T., IPM and Muhrinsyah Fatimura, S.T., M.T., the training was held in Room 406 of the Business and Science Building Center Floor 4, Wednesday 14 December 2022. The event, which was carried out using the Hybrid system (online and offline), was attended by 71 students with 57 participants present in person (offline) and 14 participants online (online).

The event was opened with an activity report by the Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Aan Sefentry, S.T., MT, who in his report explained the sources, the implementation system, the number of participants and the expected goals of this activity. “Thank you and appreciation to all committees and related parties for their contributions so that this activity can be carried out, thanks to the Rector who always supports this activity so that it becomes a reinforcement for the Faculty in carrying out various work programs.”

Then the opening ceremony continued with remarks from the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering Amiwarti, S.T., MT in his remarks saying, “Thank you and the greatest appreciation to all the committee and congratulations on participating in thesis writing training for all students. This activity was carried out with the aim of, among other things, giving direction, opening insights and becoming a capital for students to write good and correct thesis in accordance with existing guidelines. We hope that what was conveyed by the resource person can be understood and useful,” said Amiwarti, S.T., M.T ending her remarks.

Meanwhile the Chancellor of UPGRIP Dr. H. Bukman Lian, M.M., M.Sc., CIQaR in his direction said, “With the implementation of thesis writing training, this shows that the Faculty of Engineering has a movement which indicates that life is an academic atmosphere. Students who complete their studies not only graduate, but must be able to produce good final scientific work. To be able to graduate on time, assistance is needed on how to write a thesis that is in accordance with the circumstances (rules) that are owned and must comply with the rules in the Faculty of Engineering, so that the writing of the thesis does not follow the applicable procedures. Then the event continued with the opening of thesis writing training by the Chancellor of UPGRIP Dr. H. Bukman Lian, M.M., M.Sc., CIQaR as a sign of the start of the event, followed by a group photo.

Entering the material presentation session with moderator Irine Kartika Perbrianti, S.T., M.T and Dr. Nabila Aprianti, S.T, appeared as the first guest speaker. Amiwarti, S.T., M.T presented material on the Academic Policy of the Faculty of Engineering. Emidiana, S.T., M.T appeared as the second resource person opening the topic with material on Thesis Writing Format. After the break, the event resumed. Appearing as the third speaker was Herri Purwanto, S.T., M.T., IPM with material on Procedures and Requirements for Student Thesis Activities and appearing as the fourth speaker Muhrinsyah Fatimura, S.T., M.T with material on Citations and Journal Submit.

After the presentation of the material by the resource person ends, the next session is a discussion between the resource person and the participants. All participants could ask questions about anything related to the material and these questions were answered in detail by the resource persons.

The purpose of the thesis writing activity is to provide learning and knowledge of thesis writing according to scientific principles at the FT University of PGRI Palembang, motivating students to write quality thesis, motivating students to complete thesis writing more effectively so students can complete lectures on time, motivating the supervising lecturers in guiding students to write directed, creative, and innovative thesis.
